Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn booked his berth in the men's singles last 16 of the US$600,000 Indonesia Masters in Bali yesterday.

World No.21 Kunlavut stunned fifth seed Anthony Ginting of Indonesia 19-21, 21-14, 21-13 to progress to the second round of the BWF World Tour Super 750 event at Bali International Convention Center.

The 20-year-old Thai rising star, who sealed the match in 66 minutes, will next face Shesar Hiren Rhustavito after the Indonesian rallied to beat Sai Praneeth B of India 16-21, 21-14, 22-20.

However, women's singles hope Busanan Ongbamrungphan, who won the previous tournament in Germany, bowed out at the hands of unseeded Saena Kawakami.

The Thai seventh seed went down to the Japanese 21-16, 19-21, 15-21.

Earlier, women's doubles stars Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand beat Indonesia's Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and Ribka Sugiarto 21-13, 15-21, 21-16.

Mixed doubles pair Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran also advanced. The Thai duo defeated Rehan Kusharyanto and Lisa Kusumawati of Indonesia 21-14, 21-13.

Supak then teamed up with Kittinupong Kedren in the men's doubles match against Hiruki Okamura and Masayuki Onodera.

And the Thai pair edged the Japanese duo to progress with a 19-21, 25-23, 21-19 thriller.

Another Thai men's singles hope Sitthikom Thammasin failed to progress after he lost to home star Jonatan Christie in three games.

Sixth seed Christie took the first game 21-18 but Sitthikom won the second 22-20. The Indonesian star proved too strong in the end as he beat the Thai 21-17 to claim his last-16 berth.

Christie goes on to meet India's Srikanth Kidambi.
