RAYONG, Thailand – Rayong Province has been chosen to host Thailand Biennale 2027, following an evaluation by the Ministry of Culture through the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC). The province was selected for its strong vision in balancing industrial development, environmental stewardship, and cultural expression.
Minister of Culture Sabeeda Thaised said Rayong stood out for its readiness, international event-hosting experience, and coordinated support from government bodies, local organizations, private partners, artists, and communities. Among six candidate provinces, Rayong’s approach of integrating contemporary art with its industrial and environmental identity set it apart, according to the selection committee.
Rayong will take over from Phuket, which is preparing to host Thailand Biennale, Phuket 2025, from 29 November 2025 to 30 April 2026. The 2025 edition spans Mueang Phuket, Kathu, and Thalang districts under the theme “Nirankalpa (Eternal),” exploring enduring love, impermanence, technological transformation, and the balance between life and nature. It will feature 65 artists from 25 countries alongside 13 parallel and pavilion programs.
Thailand Biennale 2027 will be the fifth edition of the country’s international contemporary art festival, inspired by Venice’s Biennale model. Previous editions were held in Krabi (2018), Nakhon Ratchasima (2021), Chiang Rai (2023), and Phuket (2025).
Minister Sabeeda emphasized that the Biennale is a key platform to elevate Thai contemporary artists globally, strengthen the creative economy, support cultural tourism in designated art cities, and advance the government’s “Thai Thai” policy by transforming cultural assets into economic value while promoting sustainable local development.
