Planning to visit Thailand? Avoid these overrated tourist spots

    What’s the story

Thailand is famous for its beautiful beaches, rich culture, and vibrant cities.
But not all tourist spots live up to the hype. Some places are often crowded and expensive, leaving travelers disappointed.
Here are some overrated tourist spots in Thailand that you may want to skip on your next trip.
By avoiding these places, you can have a more authentic and enjoyable experience exploring the Land of Smiles.

Patong Beach: A crowded party hub

Patong Beach in Phuket is famous for its nightlife and water sports. But, the beach is often overcrowded with tourists, making it difficult to relax or enjoy the scenery.
The prices of food and drinks are higher than other areas of Thailand.
If you want a more peaceful beach experience, consider visiting nearby beaches like Kata or Karon, which are less crowded and equally beautiful.

    Khao San Road: Backpacker central

Khao San Road in Bangkok is a famous backpacker hub with cheap accommodation and lively nightlife. However, it can get extremely crowded with tourists from all over the world.
The area is also known for overpriced goods and services targeted at foreigners.
If you want to experience Bangkok’s culture without the chaos of Khao San Road, check out local markets or neighborhoods like Thonglor or Ari.

    Floating markets: Tourist traps

While floating markets are a quintessential Thai experience, many of them have turned into tourist traps, with inflated prices and a lack of authenticity.
Vendors often charge higher for souvenirs and food than what you’d pay at regular markets on land.
For a more genuine experience, visit smaller local markets or explore less commercialized areas such as Amphawa Floating Market.

Phi Phi Islands: Overrun by tourists

The Phi Phi Islands are known for their stunning views and crystal-clear waters but are overrun by tourists all year round.
The influx has led to environmental degradation and higher prices for accommodation and activities on the islands themselves.
Instead of heading to Phi Phi Islands, consider visiting nearby Koh Lanta or Koh Yao Noi, which offer similar beauty without the massive crowds.

Ayutthaya Historical Park: A crowded heritage site

Ayutthaya Historical Park features ancient ruins from Thailand’s former capital city.
While historically significant, it can get extremely crowded during peak tourist seasons.
This is when visitors flock from all over the world, eager to witness its grandeur firsthand.
However, the crowds can make it hard to appreciate the site’s beauty fully.
This is especially true if you’re looking for some peace amidst the history.
