Elderly German monk found dead
SAMUT PRAKAN: A German monk was found dead in a house at Wat Asokaram temple in Muang district on Tuesday afternoon, police said. Pol Lt Col Wuthi Puthipanon, a Muang police investigator, said the discovery of the death was reported to him at about 4pm. A team of police, accompanied by workers from a charity foundation, went to the temple to investigate. They found the monk, identified later as Inko Muller, 80, lying dead on a pile of trash in a house for monks built in a mangrove forest by the Chao Phraya river. No wounds or traces of him being hurt were found on him. The monk was believed to have died three days previously. The body was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy. The monks at the temple told the police that the German man had been ordained a monk and stayed at the temple for about 28 years. He was reclusive and stayed away from other monks, with a habit of collecting used bottles and other materials in the house where he lived. On Tuesday afternoon, they asked an assistant village chief to take a look after having not seen the German monk get out of his shelter for several days. The assistant village chief came and found him dead in the house.
